Analysis Premier League: By Richard Borrowdale 2003/2004: Staked = 1180, Returned = 1150.43, Yield = -2.51%
2004/2005: Staked = 650, Returned = 636.785, Yield = -2.03%
2005/2006: Staked = 236, Returned = 222.08, Yield = -5.90% Wigan 1-0 Fulham Fulham have been playing a bit better than their results indicate, but defensive weakness has been costing them points. Wigan are on a fantastic run of form at the moment, winning at Aston Villa last week. It is probably not wise to oppose them at the moment, even though Fulham are available at quite generous odds. The odds look to be about correct given Wigan's good form.
Tottenham 1-1 Arsenal Arsenal have not lost to Tottenham for quite some time, and won this fixture 5-4 last season. Henry is out injured though, so betting on Arsenal to win here perhaps isn't wise, as they look much less likely to score when he doesn't play. Tottenham have had an OK season so far, but do throw in the odd very poor performance. Despite Tottenham's boasts in the media, Arsenal, even without Henry, are a much better team. Arsenal should have the edge here, but the odds probably aren't quite high enough to take a bet on.
Birmingham 0-1 Everton Birmingham have picked up only one point at home all season, while Everton have only scored two goals this season. This promises to be a hard fought game between two struggling teams. I couldn't bet on either with any confidence.
Charlton 0-1 Bolton Charlton have been getting much better results away from home than at home, while Bolton have been doing OK recently. Add to this the fact that Charlton played extra time in midweek against Chelsea, means that Bolton must have a chance here. However, Charlton will be on a big high after winning against Chelsea in midweek, so Bolton probably aren't a great bet. Given Charlton's poor home record, the odds look about correct.
Chelsea 4-2 Blackburn Blackburn are on a decent run, and could make if difficult for Chelsea here. However, Chelsea have won all of their home league games this season and should do the same here. Blackburn can be vulnerable defensively at times, so I'd expect Chelsea to win this fairly comfortably. Bet: Chelsea -1.5 (Asian Handicap) Stake: 8/10 Odds: 2.08 (Bet365)
Liverpool 2-0 West Ham Liverpool were very poor in midweek once again, and just look a very average team this season so far, domestically at least. The suspicion remains that they only take the Champions League seriously, but not the league games. Therefore, they aren't a very good bet here at pretty short odds. West Ham haven't been in great form the past few games, but Liverpool can't be relied upon to beat anyone at the moment. No bets here.
Sunderland 1-4 Portsmouth This is a very important game for both teams as they battle to avoid relegation. Sunderland's recent form is quite decent, even though they've not been picking up many points. Against both Newcastle and Manchester United they played well for large periods in the game, despite ending up losing. Portsmouth too haven't been terrible all of the time. Sunderland are favourites here though, which is probably right. It is still difficult to rely on a team like Sunderland to win when they have won so few games at this level recently. No bets here.
Middlesbrough 4-1 Manchester United Middlesbrough are missing Ehiogu and Southgate here, which is going to weaken them defensively. Manchester United are also missing Neville, Heinze and Keane, which is going to make it harder for them to defend too. Thy should probably still have the edge, but are not a great bet as Middlesbrough have enough good players to score against them. With both teams' best defenders missing, there could be a few goals here. Bet: Over 2.5 goals Stake: 10/10 Odds: 2.15 (Pinnacle Sports)
West Brom 0-3 Newcastle Newcastle are probably rightly favourites here, after showing decent form recently and getting some injured players back. West Brom haven't been playing well, with the victory against Arsenal being pretty fortunate. The odds on Newcastle aren't high enough to take though, as away from home they do not win regularly enough. No bets.
