Analysis Premier League: By Richard Borrowdale 2003/2004: Staked = 1180, Returned = 1150.43, Yield = -2.51%
2004/2005: Staked = 650, Returned = 636.785, Yield = -2.03%
2005/2006: Staked = 96, Returned = 70.79, Yield = -26.26% Birmingham 0-3 Middlesbrough First impressions are that this game will be a low-scoring one, and despite the low odds I think that this is a fair assumption to make, and is a decent bet. Birmingham haven't looked like scoring too many goals this season, and it's a similar story with Middlesbrough. The game promises to be close, with Birmingham's home advantage possibly just giving them an edge. Bet: Under 2.5 goals Stake: 9/10 Odds: 1.72 (Expekt)
Portsmouth 1-1 Aston Villa Portsmouth have made a pretty poor start to the season. Many people expected them to struggle this season, but after making so many changes over the summer, it was hard to tell how they would do. It is still not certain that they will struggle, but things do not look good so far. Aston Villa, despite the signing of Baros, will find it difficult to win away from home this season, and the odds on them winning here are perhaps a little low. Too many variables for me here, no bets.
Sunderland 1-2 Manchester City Unless Sunderland make several good signings before the end of this month, they look certain to be relegated. They have signed about 10 players, but none of these is going to make a big impact for them this season in this league. Sunderland have decided not to spend vast amounts of money trying to survive, but the early signs are that their transfer policy may not pay off. Manchester City are a difficult team to beat these days, but probably still do not deserve to be at such short odds to win this game. Sunderland are poor, but probably not that poor. The best bet could be to go for a low-scoring game. Bet: Under 2.5 goals Stake: 6/10 Odds: 1.80 (Betinternet)
Arsenal 4-1 Fulham Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at Chelsea, and nothing less than a win will be good enough here. Fulham are a decent team at times though, so it won't be a walkover for Arsenal. The best bet appears to be Over 2.5 goals as Arsenal will be going all out for the win. Bet: Over 2.5 goals Stake: 10/10 Odds: 1.75 (Expekt)
Chelsea 4-0 West Brom Chelsea have won both games so far without being particularly impressive, while West Brom have also made a decent start to the season. Chelsea should win here, but the odds don't appeal much.
Blackburn 0-0 Tottenham Tottenham were impressive in beating Middlesbrough, but not so impressive at Portsmouth in the opening game. Blackburn defended very poorly in their opening game at West Ham, but improved against Fulham. Blackburn traditionally have struggled at home, while Tottenham do not often win away from home. Tottenham still do not convince me that they will be consistent away from home, so taking Blackburn on the handicaps could pay off. Bet: Blackburn +0 (Asian Handicap) Stake: 7/10 Odds: 2.08 (Expekt)
Bolton 2-0 Newcastle Newcastle did OK against Arsenal in their opening game, before playing very poorly at home to West Ham. Bolton were unlucky to lose to Everton, after drawing their opening game with Aston Villa. You would expect Bolton to have the slight edge here, but the bookmakers odds on them to win seem too short to take. No bets. |
