Analysis Premier League: By Richard Borrowdale 2003/2004: Staked = 1180, Returned = 1150.43, Yield = -2.51%
2004/2005: Staked = 650, Returned = 636.785, Yield = -2.03%
2005/2006: Staked = 26, Returned = 21.53, Yield = -17.19% Everton 0-2 Manchester United Everton will be looking to match last season's fourth place, which will not be at all easy for them. Manchester United have to improve on last season, when they were nowhere near Chelsea or Arsenal. This is an interesting match, that Manchester United are highly fancied to win. I'm not sure that it's going to be so easy though, with Everton never being easy to beat at home. Indeed, they beat Manchester United late last season as Goodison. No bets on this one.
Aston Villa 2-2 Bolton This game looks like it will be close, with Bolton adapting their usual tactics of frustrating teams when playing away. Aston Villa may or may not be good enough to overcome this, it is hard to tell. One of their problems is that they lacked a cutting edge last season, and found it hard to break teams down. Certainly betting on Aston Villa to win isn't a great bet here. Bolton are not without their chances, but this game looks to have been priced correctly.
Fulham 0-0 Birmingham After selling van der Sar, and having rumours surrounding the futures of several of their leading players, this could be a tough season for Fulham. They haven't made any big signings, and it is hard to see how they'll do well. It is tempting to oppose Fulham here, but their home record against the mediocre teams is quite decent. Birmingham defend well most of the time, but their odds are a little short here. No bets
Manchester City 0-0 West Brom How Manchester City can cope with the loss of Shaun Wright-Phillips will determine how well they do this season. They have signed a couple of decent strikers, but they do look vulnerable in this game. West Brom are not a team that wins away from home too often, but look to have a chance here. Certainly taking them on the handicap could pay off. Bet: West Brom +0.5 (Asian Handicap) Stake: 6/10 Odds: 1.98 (Pinnacle)
Portsmouth 0-2 Tottenham This is a hard match to call as both teams have made a fair few signings over the summer. Tottenham will be missing King and Davids, so it is fair to assume that Portsmouth have a decent chance to do well. Tottenham do not win away from home that often, and their team is not that much better than last season. Portsmouth are hard to predict, but it is worth taking a risk on them here. Bet: Portsmouth +0.25 (Asian Handicap) Stake: 7/10 Odds: 1.74 (Pinnacle)
Sunderland 1-3 Charlton A lot of people seem to be tipping Sunderland to win this game, which they may well do. However, Charlton's record away to the teams in the bottom half of the Premier League (where Sunderland are sure to finish) is quite good, with them rarely being beaten. Sunderland have made a lot of signings since last season, but how many of these players can make a big difference in the Premier League is open to debate. It probably is a decent idea to cash in on all the money going on Sunderland, by taking Charlton on the handicaps at a decent price. Bet: Charlton +0.25 (Asian Handicap) Stake: 5/10 Odds: 1.93 (Pinnacle)
West Ham 3-1 Blackburn West Ham had a very poor home record against the leading teams in the Championship last season, while Blackburn had a good away record at the end of the season. With not many changes to each team since, Blackburn have to be the bet on the handicap. Bet: Blackburn +0.25 (Asian Handicap) Stake: 8/10 Odds: 1.90 (Premierbet)
Middlesbrough 0-0 Liverpool Middlesbrough have lost only 1 of the last 6 home games to Liverpool. Another interesting stat is that 12 of the last 13 meetings between these teams have had Under 2.5 goals. However, with Liverpool having played some competitive games already this season, it may be a little unwise to oppose them here. With both teams looking to win the game, the Under 2.5 goals bet may not be a great one either. No bets here.
Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle Arsenal are well-favoured to win here, and should indeed win. However, without Campbell and the departed Vieira, they won't have it all their own way, despite Newcastle's current pretty weak squad. Newcastle do have some good players, even if they don't have much strength in depth. No bets here.
Wigan 0-1 Chelsea Chelsea have been well backed to win here, and should win. Wigan will not be a pushover though. They have a couple of dangerous strikers, and some decent players in most areas of the team. Chelsea are unlikely to win comfortably here, and may not have it all their own way. The odds on Chelsea are too low to bet on really, so no bets.
