Analysis Premier League: By Richard Borrowdale 2003/2004: Staked = 1180, Returned = 1150.43, Yield = -2.51%
2004/2005: Staked = 650, Returned = 636.785, Yield = -2.03%
2005/2006: Staked = 539, Returned = 558.08, Yield = + 3.54% Birmingham 0-2 Arsenal Birmingham will be a popular bet today as Arsenal have virtually all of their defenders injured. Cole, Clichy, Campbell, Toure, Cygan, Eboue, Lauren and Gilbert are all out, which leaves Arsenal looking pretty vulnerable. Despite this though, their attacking ability still makes them favourites here, and they could easily win. The odds on Birmingham have fallen a little bit this week to remove the value that was there. No bets here.
Bolton 1-1 Wigan Bolton have several players injured and on international duty, but Wigan have a bit of a striker crisis currently so it is hard to see them taking advantage. Bolton are worthy favourites, but with so many players unavailable, their performances haven't been great lately. I wouldn't be looking to back Bolton at fairly low odds despite their excellent home record, but it is hard to back Wigan due to their lack of strikers. No bets.
Everton 1-0 Manchester City Both teams have played quite well lately, but Everton do have a few injury doubts here. Manchester City do not get good enough results away from home to back them with confidence though. I would fancy Everton to get the better of them here, but they need Beattie to be fit, and this is far from certain, so it's a game best avoided.
Middlesbrough 0-4 Aston Villa Anything could happen here, but Middlesbrough will have been boosted by their win at Sunderland in midweek. Their home record is pretty poor though, and one win against the worst team in the league doesn't mean that they are suddenly a good team. Aston Villa played well against Chelsea in midweek and are worth supporting on the handicaps. Bet: Aston Villa +0.25 (Asian Handicap) Stake: 7/10 Odds: 1.83 (Stan James)
Newcastle 2-0 Portsmouth Newcastle have to be favourites here given that they are at home, but Portsmouth can't be ruled out. Anything could happen here, and if Portsmouth's new players settle in, they could well win here. They have a poor away record though, so no bets here.
West Brom 2-0 Blackburn Blackburn's win over Manchester United was the latest in a series of good performances by them. However, they probably should not be slight favourites here, as they have suffered a fair few away defeats this season, despite their recent record being quite good. West Brom can play well at home, so any result of three seems possible here. No bets.
West Ham 2-0 Sunderland Not many people will give Sunderland a chance here, but they have been playing OK at times lately, as Chelsea will testify. However, they then produces terrible performances against Brentford and Middlesbrough. West Ham should win but they are priced a little short for my liking.
Manchester United 4-2 Fulham Manchester United's defending has been abysmal at times recently, particularly against Blackburn in midweek, but also in games like against Manchester City. Fulham have a terrible away record and are unlikely to be able to take advantage. Fulham can score, but they are always losing too many games on their travels. Over 2.5 goals is the best bet here. Bet: Over 2.5 goals Stake: 8/10 Odds: 1.80 (Canbet)
Tottenham 3-1 Charlton Tottenham have been a little below par recently, and seem to be missing Mido at the moment. Charlton have improved after their little slump and are no pushovers any more. Tottenham do have a good home record this season though, so have to be fancied to win. Charlton can make it awkward for them though, so no bets here.
Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool Chelsea have not been anywhere near their best recently, and are missing the physical presence of Drogba in attack. Despite that, they are a better team than Liverpool, and also will be motivated to win given the critical comments coming from Liverpool, particular Carragher. Chelsea are rarely at such high odds to win a home game, so I think have to be the bet here. Bet: Chelsea Stake: 10/10 Odds: 2.04 (Gamebookers)
